How to use MoniLoop
MoniLoop keeps every expense in the loop: a budget for each category, expenses added in a tap, and always a clear picture of what you can still spend, on your own or with your family. This guide follows the app; the website works the same way, and the differences are noted.
Getting started
- Create an account with your email and a password. We email you a 6-digit code to confirm it.
- Pick your currency and check your time zone. The time zone decides when your day and your month start. Both can be changed later.
- Your budget starts with nine common categories (rent and bills, grocery, travel and so on). Rename them, delete them or add your own.
Did someone send you an invite link? Open it before you sign up: you go straight into their family's budget, in its currency, and you can start a budget of your own later.
Your budget and categories
- Home shows the month: what is left to spend, what you have spent and how many days are left, then each category with its budget.
- Set each category's monthly budget in More, Categories (on the website: Settings, Categories). A category without a budget still counts what you spend.
- A month that is different (Eid, a wedding, a holiday): on Home choose Manage, Customize this month to change that month's budgets only, or add a category just for that month.
- Use the arrows next to the month to look at earlier months.
Adding expenses
- Tap Add expense, type the amount, pick a category, and add a note if you like. The date is today unless you change it.
- Things you buy often (milk, petrol) can be templates: they appear under Quick add on Home, and one tap adds them. Manage them in More, Templates.
- Tap an expense to change it. Swipe it to edit or delete; a deleted expense can be brought back with Undo.
- No connection? Add expenses anyway. They wait on your phone and are sent as soon as you are back online (app only).
Budgets and families
Everyone has a personal budget, and you can also share budgets: one for your household, another with your parents. Each budget has its own categories, expenses and currency. Nobody in a family sees your personal budget.
- Create a family: More, Budgets & families, Create a family (on the website: the Family page). Choose its name and currency. You can bring your personal budget into it, or start it fresh.
- Invite people: open the family and share its invite link or code. Others open the link, or enter the code in More, Budgets & families, Join with an invite code.
- Roles: admins manage members and the invite code; members add and change everything; view-only members can look but not change anything. New members get the role set on the family's page.
- Switching: with more than one budget, the line above the month (for example "KHAN FAMILY · 2026") opens a menu to switch. On the website, use the budget menu at the top.
- Admins can change a family's currency or delete the family (you type its name to confirm). Anyone can leave a family (the only admin first makes someone else admin); what they added stays with it.
Bills and subscriptions
Rent, bills and subscriptions go in More, Recurring expenses (on the website: Recurring), monthly, weekly or yearly, with an end date if they stop. They are added as expenses on their due date, and you get a reminder before.
Income, savings and payday
- Record what comes in under More, Income; Reports then shows what you saved.
- Saving for something? Create a goal in More, Savings goals and add to it as you go.
- Set your salary day (from Home, or More, Alerts) and Home shows how much you can spend each day until payday.
Reports and search
- Reports shows the month's income, spending and savings, then where the money went, budget against spending, the trend over six months and a calendar of every day.
- Under Budget health, tap On track, Near limit or Over to see just those categories.
- Search finds any expense by its note, with filters for category, dates and amount.
Alerts and notifications
- Alerts lists what needs a look today: a category close to its budget or over it, and bills that are due. Swipe one away when you have seen it.
- In More, Alerts choose when a category should warn you, how early bill reminders come, and whether your phone gets notifications.
The AI assistant
- Tap the round assistant button on Home or Reports and write as you would to a person: "add 500 for groceries" or "how much is left for travel?". It asks for your agreement before the first message, because messages are sent to OpenAI.
- It answers about the budget you are looking at. You can send a few messages a day; if you need more, tap Increase my limit.
- If an answer is wrong or inappropriate, report it from the answer itself.
Your account
- Change your personal budget's currency and your time zone in More, Account (on the website: Settings, Data). Amounts are not converted when the currency changes.
- Light or dark: More, Appearance.
- Delete your account in More, Account. See Delete your account for what is deleted.
